CONCERT AT CLYDE.
The concert given in tho Town Hall, Clyde, on Wednesday evening, in aid of the Dunstan District Hospital, under tho auspices of tho Good Templars, so far as attendance was concerned— consequently financially—was the greatest success that has been witnessed for years part Every part of the district was fairly represented, Alexander however heading tho list with a contingent of about sixty persons. The performers, both instrumental and vocal, vied with each other in their efforts to please, and the repeated encores fully proved that their enleavors to do so were successful. It wonld be invidious to criticise any of tho performers. We will content ourselves by enumerating, feeling assured that by so doing we shall please all. Mrs Button, Misses Rees, andMias O’Brien successfully accompanied tho singers, who were—Mrs Shaw, Messrs Rees, Turton, Sweet, Austin, Holden, Macgeorge, and Massey. M r Williams, whose name was on the progiamrae, through some misunderstanding that we cannot understand, failed to put in an appearance. Mr Begg gave two solos, with variations, on the concertina. Taking all in all, the concert did not pass along so smoothly as could have been desired, one or two hitches occurring, it however must be borne in mind that not every man is born a stagemanager, allowance should accordingly be made for any shortcomings, and assign it more to want of judgment than a desire to please. The Rev. Mr Clinton, by express desire of the members of the 1.6. G.T., occupied the chair, and at the close briefly thanked the audience for their attendance. The Rev. Mr Lothian, on behalf of the order, thanked the ladies and gentlemen for their valued assistance.
We are informed the proceeds will amount to nearly L2B,
