STOCK REPORT.
Mr Donald Stronaeh (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week ending March 16tk : Fat Cattle.—The market to-day was heavily over-supplied, 332 head Laving been yarded Demand was in consequence very languid, and prices showed equal about 2s Gd per 1001b. Bullocks realised from L 4 5s to LlO I7s Gd, and cows L-l os to L 7 12s Gd per head. On account of Mr J. C. Buckland we sold 15 bullocks and IS cows, the former at 1,4 12s Gd to L 5 7s Gd, and the latter at L 4 7s 6d to L 5 2s Gd per head. V. r e sold also drafts of bullocks on account of Messrs 11. and J. Patron, at bC 7s Gd to L 7 17s Gd , and Messrs Little Brothers, at Lossto LG ss. Quotation for host beef 20a per 1001b. Fat Calves. —4l overo sold at from 12s to 45s each.
Fat Sheep.—2l34 head were penned (of which only a very small proportion were cross-breeds). Fair competition was exhibited by the trade, and last week’s quotations were maintained. Prices realised for cross-hreds ranged from 8s to 13s per head. For prime mutton we quote 2,1 per lb. Fat Lambs.—2l2 were offered, and sold at from 4s to 9s Gd.
Fat Pigs.—Sixty-five sold at 23s to 47s each.
Store Sheep.—Wo have buyers for a j large number of full-mouthed merino owes j and crosa-breds of all ages. We report | sales of 129 merino rams ou account of Mr j J. F. Kitchen, Moa Flat: and 100 on ao- | count of Mr <T. Anderson, of Wyndham, at satisfactory prices. Wool.—We are glad to observe that the tone of the London wool auoiions has experienced a decided improvement. Private and Press telegrams record an increase of animation and an advance of about id per lb on the lowest rates current this series. It is announced that the next sales will commence on 10th May. We held our No. 5 sale on Tuesday, the 15th inst., and offered a varied catalogue, which elicited good competition. Prices were somewhat irregular—in certain instances fully last sale prices being realised, while in other oases a decline of 'yl to Id thereon was shown. We sold in all 235 bales and 12 bags, at the following prices Cross-brcds —greasy, 7| Ito IOJd ; 12.1. Merinos—greasy, 7JI to 11$ 1; scoured, Is 3d to Is Bd. Sheepskins,—Our catalogue on Monday consisted chi-fly of this year’** skins, which, with a good demand, realised fair, prices—say. cross bred, from 2s lor ordinary to 5s for fill! woolied skins ; merinos, ordinary, Is 7d to 2s ; lambskins, 2s 44 to 2s lu.l ; pelts. 74 to Is 41; skins inhales, 7i’ito to 8| 1 p-r lb. Hi les —We cleared by auction this week sundry parcels at up to 23s G I each (for average 43;b). The demand continues unabated. Tallow. —The market is about the same as last week. Wo have made sales atop to 25s for fairly-rendered tallow, and IGs per cwt for butchers’ rough fat. Grain.—Wheat; The new crop is not as yet coming forward freely. We anticipate no difficulty in placing parcels of fair quality. Prices, however, will undoubtedly rule lower than last season—say 3s Gd to 3s 91 for prime. Oats ; There lias been some demand for feed oats for shipment, and stocks in warehouse being low, prices are well maintained. Sales have been made at Is Gd to Is 6Jd, and of milling at, Is 7d, which wo quote as to-day’s prices. Barley : No transactions to report.
