Mr W. H. Gordon, of Murrunmdi writes to the Sydney 'Morning Herald as follows:—For some years past at this season you have kindly allowed me space in the Herald to give publicity to a few remarks upon nee planting, and the great benefit to lie derived to the public at large by planting Iruit stones, and I now ask for a continuance ot the annual favor. 1 have- for the past 20 years been in the-habit of planting fruit stones wherever I go; we have, therefore, all over this nistvici especially, large quantities nt stone fruit, of all kinds, not only near dwellings, but all over the bnSli \ when 1 tir-t commenced planting there was no Iruit to be had here except that which was occasionally brought up by dealers, from long distances, and the pi ice charged was something enormous; this induced me to commence planting stones, and in a lew years’ time I had plenty of fruit 1 have never grafted a tree, and jet the fruit has as tine flavor on trees of 17 years old as those of five years. I make a point of diawmg my knife up the trunk of trees I co "e near, as often as I can, as they,'especially peaches, become baik bound, and, if not cut as described, soon ■ die, 1 have neon helped in my work tuo-t kind y by the Press all over the colony, and by their notices have received .paiCt k and boxes of stones from' all parts. Last year -1 had one box collected .at, the Sydney maikets, a trifle being given to the children tor gathering A a this is the sea.-on for collecting stones, let me advise those ’ who have never planted a stone to ! commence this year and aid the good work. By doing so they will not only, as I have done, enjoy the luxuiy > f being able to gather fruit in the season, but also the giutiticat ion of enabling the public at large to do the same ”
