AN ANCIENT NEWSPAPER.
A copy of the oldest newspaper known was recently found in the Uuieer.-,if.y of Ibd 'al'ierg, John Carolus, of is thought to hive printed this copy, which is in the form <>f a quarto volume, and tears the date 1000. Much of the contents is extremdy interesting and c insists principally of letters written hy . cotTeaponents,, .These letters, when cmi ng from- Rime, were 21 days on the route, from Venice 14 t?» 17 days, mid from Vienna about .ei:;ht days. When there was not sufficient, matter to fill out the sheets, blank spaces- were left. One-of the inci dents' mentioned was the manufacture of a telescope by Galileo, Some of the hews was of a very bloody character, and picturea-a lawless state of society, one item .relating to the confession of seven ' criminals, "who acknowledged “'that'on tlie 18th of this month they threw.,..about 14 persons into the water, and that their band -numiierediSD, who for the' most part-were natives of Prague.”— American Paper.
