THE COUNTIES' RAILWAY COMMISSION.

The Counties’ Railway Commission, J. Bathgate, Horace Bastings. Donald Reid, and Henry Clark, Esquires, arrived in Clyde last evening. During the afternoon and en route they examined critioady the agricultural holdings at Bald Hill and Speargr.ißs Flats, the orchards in Conroy’s Gully, and the holdings in Earnscleugh. Shortly after their arrival they visited the Library, and inspected the exhibits of fruit, etcetera, referred to in another column, and expressed themselves as highly delighted with what they saw, the unanimous opinion being that the products, as shown, demonstrated beyond a doubt a magnificent climate and grand soil. One exhibit, (and which we omitted to mention in our remarks before alluded to) a block of coal, sample of lime-stone and fire-clay, from the pit of Mr Marie in Cooper’s Gully, drew special attention. The Commission then adjourned to Host Cox’s Port Phillip Hotel, where a recherche repast availed them. The Commission are accompanied by two gentlemen, representing the Daily Times and Morning Herald respectively, from whom we may expect to hear further. This morning the party left for Cromwell en route to Lake VVanaka and Hawea. It is expected the party will return here again on Monday morning early, and then proceed to Mamo toto County, vid Blacks. We make this reference so that if any resident in the district has any specialty to bring under the the gentlemen’s notice, they may know when and where to look for them.
