Business engagements in another part of the district prevented our attendance at the Concert and Bill givefl last Monday evenin'.' at Alexandra in aid of the full Is of the local hospital, and we are sorry to say our esteemed occasional correspondent's letter giving us an account of the affair had hot reached us up to the time df oilr g >ing to press. In our next is-me we hope to rectify the-omission. The lively interest we hive ever taken in the Institution will le move from the minds of ohr friends all false impressions as to the ciuse of oor absence, an 1 having once expressed our regret at being absent wa dee n it unnecessary to say further. From what, we have been able to glean, the call on behalf of the Institution, despite the many Other calls made during the late holidays oil the purses of the inhabitants of the district, was most heartily responded to, the gross cash takings at the door being coiisi lerably overL2l, and that the efltartainmmt given by t'’e ladies and gentlemen, who so kindly came forward in aid of the go id cause was everything that could have been dgsited. A special feature in the e itertaiivrtent was i a farce, and by all accounts the actors acquitted themselves in a manner i|U : te beyond all expectations, evidencing without a doubt that they had well studied their allotted- parts. A large party remained to the Ball. The Alexandra bra's ban under the able leadership of Mr Facet, during the evening played soma beautifully concerted pieces, and also plaved the music for the dance. Mr W. Robertson acting as Master of the Ceremonies.
