Glasgow Groupie stands IGi hands high, is a beautiful bright bay, with splendid lees, has very superior action, with almost faultless symmetry, and has proved himself a sure foal getter. His dam Empress, own sister to Emperor, was bred by W. H. Valpv, Esq , out of Nancy (imported), by Napoleon (imported). Empress has gained the following prizes, viz Second in Dunedin in 186(5, heating Nimmo’s celebrated bay mare Kate, which was sold to go to Canterbury for L 220 in 1868 ; gained the second prize at Taieri and third at Dunedin, healing Ninnno’s old black marc Jean ; and in ISTO gained second at Taieri, first at Shag Valley, and first at Blueskiu. She was only exhibited six times, and was successful on each occasion. Nancy was by the famous Garvey horse, and was bred by Alex. Findlay, Esq., S.-uidyhills, near Glasgow, and was imported to Otago by W. H. Valpv. Esq., per the ship Southern Gross, in 1856. Nancy was first shown as a three-year-old in 1854, and gained Fist Priz i at Hamilton. First at Bd'lcstown, Second at Glasgow, and Second at Kildhride. She was next year shown as brood mare at Glasgow and Kildhride, when she took Second Prize at both places. His sire, the celebrated imported horse Glasgow Geordie, by Champion, was bred by Mr Andrew Warnock, Bearyanls, near Glasgow, out of his Prize mare Maggie, whose stock were all prize-takers without exception, and, although most of them wore sold when under two years old, they realized in the aggregate over L 1,200. Glasgow Geordie has taken the following prizes First at Maryhill, Kirkintnllock Bishopbriggs, and Johnson ; in 1867 he gained First Prize at T-.komairiro, First at Taieri. and First at Dunedin ; and 1868, First at Taieri, and Second at Dunedin. Champion gained priz-'s as a colt at almost every show in Lanarkshire. When four years old he gained the First Prize of 1.40 and a Silver Medal at Glasgow, where 28 horses competed ; when live years old ho gained the First Brize of L4O and a Medal at Gatehouse, O’Fleet ; also the same year he gained the First Prize of L3O at the Highland Society’s Show, Dumfries ; when six old he gained First Brize of L4O and Medal at Gatehouse, O’Fleet ; when seven years o'd he gained the Fiist Prize of 1.40 at Glasgow ; and the same year he gained the medium Gold Medal at the Highland Society’s Show at Kelso, being then outlawed for any othei thing than extra Stock; also First Prize of 1.50 at Carlisle, and Second at the Great International Exhild tion, London, in the year IS62—thus showing Glasgow Geordie to be a pure-bred Clydesdale, and combining the two best strains of blood ever imported to Otago—viz., Glasgow Geordie and Emperor, the owner of the latter last year refusing L6OO for him. Glasgow Geordie has won four first prizes (including the Tapanui first, 1873 and 1870), and also two second prizes. Terms : L 4. payable on or before the Ist February, 1881.
