The Company have already started business in the butchery line under the able management of Mr Thompson, late of Clyde, and L think it my judgment is right, the Company have been very fortunate in securing the services of Midi a, man, as there is no doubt he is well up in his business. I We had a fatal accident here some few days since under the following circumstances,—Two or three boys were playing in some old sluicing ground, when one of them (the eldest son of Mr Manson) got an old pick and started picking under a hanging face;' wh'oh brought down a great lump of the surface, which smashed the unfortunate youth to pieces. I am sorry to inform you that an old k resident of the Bannockburn (Mr J. L. j‘ had his leg amputated last week in the Cromwell Hospital, the cause ot which sad eveht ia attributed to a hurt received in the leg some years ago. On last Friday evening there wag a tea meeting in the school-room for the benefit of the Preshyteriau church—th'-re were Over two hundred sat down, wh'ch will give a very handsome sum towards the church. . lo mining, things are very quiet as all the miners are preparing for a wash-up for the Christmas ; the water-races are keeping a very good suoply considering the dry season. Some of the reefers are crushing here, and I am sorry to s y that the yield from the stone just put through by Messrs Lawrence and E 1 wards was very poor, hut it is anticipated their next crushing will prove very much better. Mr S Williams and party are also going to start this week, and in my next I trust I shall be able to give you a good account.
