ARROW TOWN.
(TROJI OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) The Macetown Ree's have at last sent down 8 one gold. Oil thin lay two very respectable cakes were brought to Arrow- • town repress iting the first proceeds for th • season, which although an early one ' for all O'her descriptions of produce is a late one f -r the cn e c l metal, hj >w ver. it ir hotter to he la e than never, m ire espec iallv in the matter of the gold harvest, <.f which we line now r ceived the first in atalmcnls— the largest cake was from the famous Tipp rary Mine ami weighed 3154 ounces. I am hot aware of how many tons of qnartz were ern-hed, as I am leil to ho li -ve that no regular calculation was male, the stone or ra her mullock put through was from a low level tunnel driven in clunking the winter months to catch the shoot of gnl 1 which tnr e l nut so exc edingly well last snnim t and which shoot Ins only jnst ' 'been reached after so me 3 >0 feet driving. The whole width of the funnel was taken eveiything, good, had and indifferent, having been put through the mi l during the last e uht weeks. Th; cunpanyin a few days time will he in a position to take out ■ first-rare atone, and a good cake will he ready for the Christmas festivities. Share holders in quartz mines as a rule-always profering to have a little bit,of cake, to eat. rather th in hear tell about it. The next cake was fro o the • which was 321 miners 17 Mwts fmin 217. t ns of qua!!* An exccedinglv ‘hah’lsomo yield to people of nio lera'e asnirations. but it was not un to wfi it wai gerie ally expected, of course some persons a e never datis
.-uni both want ami expect mire than they can get The mine looks very well, the reef is running direct into tlie Premier c ai n. Clms'imig will see another cake as the stone is all ready. The Home .card Bound is busy crushing and promises to turn out exceedingly well. I fancy the Christmas'cate of this company will prove that it is equally as good a mine as any other on Macetown. Tne Main bo le at Advance Peak have driven their tunnel 233 feet along the reef, but have not met with payable stone yet. The Ladyn Fay re are sull driving, and have put in a cross-cut also; they have every promise of soon cutting gold-bearing quartz The Golden Link, which occupies the ground in Sawyer’s Gully between the Gladstone and Ladye Fayre, have just registered their company under the Limited Liability Act. Of course the company have a lot of work before them before their property becomes a veritable golden link. The Premier is sinking to c itch the Gladstone shoot of golden stone, which is said not io he more than thirty feet from (heir boundary. The Defiance have registered and become a j lint stock company under the Minis Act;, so also have the Caledonian, who have c mime me I sinking on the line of reef. The North Tip eia'y have done nothing as yet, hut they have douhtle-s a line run of ai.oiie in their mine, and which only wants a little more exertion to find, to make it eqnil to the real Tipperary itself. The T pperary South and Da> iel O'Connell me ia statu quo. and appear hk ly to rem .in so this season. The Otago Prospect is also idle ; this mine has a fine reef showing, and only wants prospecting. The All Nations are about to make a start, a!s> the Garibaldi. These two a e very ising mines ; both li ve done a deal of Work and have cut payable stone, but both hue had a difficulty in getting it down to crush ;■ want of funds is the only h.r to the successful worki ig of these mines. The Scotchman’s is quiet at present, being unable to get down their -tone for a trial ermhin,'. The Germania is also idle ; they have never dooe anything as yet; the mine should be a good one if only tried properly. Finn’s is in the same stale of quietness, a goo 1 re -f shows on the surface, and has been pr- speeded in several places with promising p suits ; like several claims it only wants working. The Victor Em tniiel is another mine quietly reposing for the seas m. A'deal of work has been done hero and the best average crashing ma le at Macetown, hut somehow or anorher there has always been a want of funds to get things ifro pmp-r wo. king order. The Ma yb Tough is another g.o 1 mine, ami poss sues tie l est defined lo h> of stone ou th- field, an 1 the trial crushings give very excellent r suits, hut ihe mine is hung up hk 1 a great mmy o'hers for want ol capital In work it properly this Company’s battery is at present crushins' for the Gladstone cun nmy. Taken as a whole the M icotown field ia one of great promise, hut more energy io w rkhig the mines is,uyanted. Quartz mining is a speculation the results of which it is impossible to edeu'afe upon wilhiuiv degree of ceitainty whatever. Courage and perseverance, and a determ nation to go in and win ia th i only way to m ike this fmsine.-a pay. and as a rule—who venture ra„at make the ra'St.
