THE DISQUALIFICATION OF MATA.
Referring .to Mata’s running in the V.RC. Handicap, (he Argus of the Bt,h says “ Nine horses started for the V. R.C. Handicap, for which Napper Tandy was first favourite for a whije, hu't Mata was so persistently hacked that he sta-tel at 5 to 2 against him. The backers of Mata evidently knew what they were doing, as the horse won comfortably in the fastest time on record. The stewards were not satisfied with the way Mata had been run, and called on Mr Vallance to explain the horse’s running - in the Royal Pari Stakes on Thursday, when he finished absolutely last.” In its issue of the following day, the same journal savs “ The suspicious running of the horse Mata during tlie V R.O. Spring Meeting has met with prompt treatment at the hands of .the stewards. .. The following notice was posted at the office of the Club yesteriay:—‘The stewards having cert" siderod the running of the horse Mata in the Royal Park Stakes, on the 4th November, 1330, have decided that the jockey Ray shall be disqualified from ruling or training any horse, and that the horse - Mata shall be disqualified from running upon the Flemiugtou racecourse.’ ” The Age says “ The investigation held hv the Committee into Mata’s running for the Cup came to nothing, but suspicions are abroad that be did not do his host possible for the Cpp, and was suffering from , thp matahioTnfl leqco of .tjhe .Ijetting ring, jT ho decision'of the stewards was made ■ I knownVsteVday'fhorning - ”'-- I " A Renter’s telegram received since says that, the Wagga.T.nrf Club have endorsed ; the disqualification.
