Tile notification in the Government Gazette now before ns, anent the sittings of the District Courts on the Otago Gold Fields, we can only regard as incomplete, and that when the Government have finally decided how the business of tho central gold fields is to be conducted, wo shall be able to judge of the wisdom of the arrangements. While we have never supported the holding of District Courts in every Resident Magistrate’s Court throughout the country, we have ever held these Courts were extremely beneficial to the people, and since their establishment have done good service ; but if sittings are only to he hell at Queenstown and Lawrence, so far from the District Courts Act being a benefit to residents on the central gold fields, it might as well be abolished. As we said before, we do not think the arrangement of the Courts is yet settled ; but should we be in error it behoves those whoso interests are liktdy to be affected to point out to the Government not alone the injustice to, but the very great inconvenience it will entail on, the residents of Maniototo and Vincent Counties.
