Champion, when a yearling, gained two lirst prizes ; as a two-year-old, four lirst and two second prizes ; when a three-year old, a premium of 4U sovereigns at, Glasgow; when four years old, a premium of 50 sovereigns given by the Kiikeudbright Agricultural Society; and when live years old got £4O premium at Glasgow ; he also got a silver medal for the live best yearlings got by any horse iu 1859. Also a number of first prizes in Australia, anil lirst prize at the Taieri, the only year he was shown. Gentle, dam Betty, was bred hy Captain Gardner, Dandenong, Victoria ; sire, the imported Clydesdale horse Reformer ; dam, Bess, imported hy Captain Gardner. Betty gained first prize as a one year-old in Melbourne in 1854 ; second as a two-year-old, in 1855 ; and lirst as a three-year-old, in ISsG—all in Melbourne. His dam Empress, own sister to Emperor, was bred by \V. H. Valpy, Esq,, out of Nancy (imported), by Napoleon (imported). Empress has gained the following prizes, viz:—Second in Dunedin in 1806, beating Nimmo’.s celebrated bay mare Kate, which was sold to go to Canterbury for L 220 in ISOS ; gained the second prize at Taieriand third at Dunedin, beating Kimmo’s old black marc Jean ; and in 1870 gained second at Taieri, first at Shag Valley, and first at PJutskin. Nancy was lay the famous Garvey horse, anil was bred by Alex. Findlay, Esq., Sandyhills, near Glasgow, and was imported to Otago by W. H. Valpy, Esq., per the ship Southern Cross, in 1850 Nancy was first shown as a three-year-old in 1851, and gained Fist Prize at Hamilton, First at Diillestown, Second at Glasgow, and Second at Kildbride. She was next year .shown as brood mare at Glasgow and Kildbiidc, when she toe!; Second Prize at both places. His sire, (ho celcWted imported horse Glasgow Geordie, by Champion, was bred by Mr Andrew Warnock, Bcaryards, near Glasgow, out of his Prize mare Maggie, win so stock were all. prize-takers without exception, and. although most of them were sold when under two years old, they realized in the aggregate over L 1,200. Glasgow Geordie lias taken the following prizes First at Maryhill, Kirkintullook JUshopbiiggs, and Johnson ; in ISG7 ho gained First Prize at T.,koinairir», First at Taicri. and First at Unnodin ; and ISG3, First at Taicri, and Second at Dunedin. Champion gained prizes as a colt at almost every show in Lanarkshire. When four years old he gained the First Prize of 1.40 and a Silver .Medal at Glasgow, where 28 horses competed ; when five years old ho gained the First Prize of 1.40 and a Medal at Gatehouse, 0 fleet ; also the some year he gained the First Prize of 1 ..NO at'the Highland Society’s Show, Dumfries ; when six old ho gained First Prize of L4O and Medal at Gatehouse, O’Fleet ; when seven veins o’d he gained the First Prize of [.40 at Glasgow ; and the same year he gained the medium Gold Medal at the Highland Society’s Show at Kelso, being then outlawed for any of hoi thing than extra Stockalso First Prize of 1.50 at Carlisle, ami Second at the Groat International Exhibition, London, in the year 1802—thus showing Glasgow Geordie to lie a pnre-bro-1 Clydesdale, and combining the two best strains of blood ever imported to Otago—viz., Glasgow Geordie and Emperor, the owner of the latter last year refusing LGOO for him. Glasgow Gr.Trdio has won four Grst priz-s (including the Tapanui first, 1575 and 18/0), and also tuo second prizes. Terms ; 1,4. payable on or before the Ist. February, 1881.
