A VOICE FROM ALEXANDRA.
[ We do ? rot hold our.selves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents.]
(TO TltK EDITOR OF THE DU.VSTAN TIMES.) !-IR I notice with regret two letters in Wednesday's Cromwell Argus from anonymous correspondents in Alexandra commenting in very uncharitable terms on the changes in the location [of the Gold-fields officers, and stating that “ public opinion does not want the officials to stay in Glyde, for it will ho the greatest blessing that ever occurred to Alexandra when the Clyde oflicera take their departure. And again “ public opinion in Alexandra cues with one voice, away with them, away with them, &o." Now Mr Editor, although I may not agree wilh all that is published in the OUSSTAV TIMES, or believe that it has always fully sifpo'icd thesneeial interests of Alexandra, and although my sympathies ami business re'a ions do not tend to mak * me a supporter of Clyde in'ercs f s, I fail to see hnw it will he a blessing to Alexandra to have the head-quarters of the officers removed some fourteen miles finthvT .from this township, ami t find that my views are endorsed by nearly all the residents here with whom I have conversed on the subject. Both ill my priva'e and public capac ty, I, with others, have emleavored to obtain for Alexandra a fair share of at-
tention from the Warden and Gold-fields officials, and for the holding of Courts, &c., at Alexandra to meet the convenience of the people : and the Warden has quite recently hern interviewed and written to officially on the subject of holding fortnightly Courts, and to which request I have no doubt the convenience of the people will he studied, ami if practicable the request granted. This I take leave to say is the legitimate way of getting our wants attended to, and not by lifting the hj atchet, nml gloating over the downfall of our neighbors. In conclusion, I may state that lam induced to pen these lines so that it may no - , go forth unchallenged that (as stated) the letters in the Cromwell Argus express the views of the whole of the residents of Alexandra.—Yours &c.,
James Rivers. Alexandra, October Ist, 1881).
