DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL.
The usual monthly meeting of the Committee was held in the Town Hall Chamber on Monday evening last, the 4th inst.
Present—ls. Naylor, Esq, (Vice-Presi-dent), suit! Messrs F. J. Wilson, C Atttield, .1 .Holt and A. A. Oliver, J. E .Stevens (Treasurer), and G. Fache (Secretary.) The minutes of last meeting were read ami confirmed.
The visaing Committee’s No. 2 report, recommending payment of accounts for salaries an I supplies f >r the past month, amount ng to L 43 5s 3d was read and re ceived.
The Treasurer's report showing a debit babinco of 1,230 16s 91 was re.nl anil receiveil. The Treasurer stated that during the month he ha 1 only receive I one subscription of L2 2s from Clyde. Too Surgeon s report, as follows, was read and received : Number of patients in Hospital Sept. I. 2 do a linitto 1 during mouth ... 7 do discharged ... ... 3 do iu Hospital Sept 31. .. 6 The report of the sub-0 nnmictec appointed to consider and inquire into the present fimneid condition of the institution, as follows, was read. “To the Committee of Management of the Dutist.au District Hospital, “ Gentlemen—Your Suh-Committee have the honour to report that we have duly considers i the matter entrusted to us, and have unanimously agreed to recommend as follows : “ 1. That the salary of the Resident Surgeon he reduced to Tds’.) per annum. “2. That the Ward-man and Matron’s joint salary he reduced to LCD per annum. “3. That the services of a Collector be dispensed wi:h. “4. That members of the Committee should undertake the duty of collectiug from time to time as may be arranged. “5. That the weekly charge to patients being non-subscriber*, he L2.
“ 0. That the weekly charge to patients being subscribers, be. LI 10s.
“7. That efforts bo made to raise funds hy moans of entertainments or bazaars at Al xan ira and Clyde about I ’lnistmas time. “ In conclusion your Sub-Committee beg to say that they view wi hj satisfaction the efforts being made to collect debts due by paying pa'ieots, and recommend that decisive measures should be at once taken to recover at least soma portion of the very large amount due. “ We have the honour to be, “ Gentlemen, “ Your obedient servants, “ Vincent Pykk. “ REvj.vMty Naylor. “James Holt. “J E. Discussion ensued, the unanimously expressed opinion being that while th; cuttin ; down of the salaries as embo lie 1 in the report might not meet with general sinport, it was yet in view of the increasing indebtedness absolutely necessary, ami further ic was evident that unless a more liberal response to the call for funds was ■given hv the public generally, there would bo nothing else for it but to close the doors.
The report was received, and the Secretary was instructed to give the necessary notices. MrC. Attfield was re-elected member of the visiting Committee. The meeting thru separated.
