PLOUGHING MATCH.
, A nr st successful meeting took place on Fi i lay, the 27i.1i ult, in a paddock adjoining Mrs Mil ward’s White Horse Hotel. The wuuhcr tor a few days before was very bad, but on the particular day it broke tine, in fact it was splendid. There were something like 250 spectators to witness the competition, which was good throughout, particularly iu the swing ploughs. During the day a luncheon was provided by Mia Mil ward and Mr M'Morran, free to all comers, to which a large number sat down. When the ploughing was over an adjournment was made to a grand supper, which wound up with a ball, and to which our fair friends stept it till daylight did appear. The decisions of the judges gave general satisfaction throughout, though the task was a difficult one on account of the keenness of the competition. The following gentlemen kindly acted as judges For Ploughing— J. Stronach, Esip (Matakauui Station), J. Melville, Esq. (St. Bathans), G. Turnbull, Esq. (Blackstone Hill). For Horses and Harness—G. Hay, Esq (Palmerston), J. C. Jones, Esq. (Blacks), J. Turnbull, Esq. (Clack-stone Hill). The following prizes vereawarded : Swing Ploughs—Open to all comers.
