STOCK REPORT.
Mr Donald Stronacb (on behalf of the New Z aland Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week ending IStli August : Fat Cattle. —l3-1 head yarded. The supply being moderate realised about the highest quotations of last week’s market, bullocks fetching LO Ids to LlO ; and cows, LI os to 1.9 7s Cl per bead. Wo quote piime beef 2ds, and medium 20s to 22s per 1001b.
Fat Calves —3 head were sold, at os per head.
Fat sheep were iu full supply, 3000 head having been penned, of which 2337 were cross-bred and 603 merinos. For the former from 9i 91 to 17s C 1 was obtained, and for the latter 8s 3 1 to 105.9 1 per head. On account of the New Zealand Agricultural Company, Limited, we disposed of 243 head of croaa-breds, at from 12s 0 1 to l-ls ; and on account of Messrs Qnartly and Wilson Brothers, of 186 merinos, at 8s 3J to 10s per head. Quotation for prime mutton, 2'j 1 per lb. Wool —The, London auctions opened on the 17tli instant, at a decline estimated, according to telegram received here, at from 10 to 124 per cent. On last sale prices, with a dull market. Later advices
to hand this morning record some improvement during the three succeeding days amounting, except in the ease of crossbreds, to a return to the level of last sales, 43,.100 bales having been catalogued up to the 31st.
Sheepskins.—We offoied a full catalogue on Monday, which met with a fair demand. Butchers’ crossbred skins ruled 61 to Sd each lower than at previous sales, merinos were unchanged. On the basis of the sale we quote butchers’ crossbreds up to 4s 91 ; merinos up to 4s ; station skins from Is lOd to 3s 10d each.
11 Jqa.—Late Values aro still supported, the demand being active cmnigli to clear off all parcels coming to hand at 3Jd per lb for wot salted, and 20s each for batchers' green skins.
Tallow.—We report sales at recent quotations, say 20s to 27s per cwt for well rendered tallow, and lus 17s for rough fat at which there is a moderate demand for local consumption. Grain.—Wheat: Market quiet. The improvement recorded last week appears to have somewhat subsided, hut prime samples can still be placed at about quotations then given although the demand is not brisk. We quote from 4s 2d for medium to 4s Gd for prime milling. Oats : There is no business to report. Holders show no disposition to give way, and pressing requirements having been supplied, buyers hold aloof. B irlcy : Good malting samples arc saleable, and transactions have taken place at last week’s quotations. For inferior kinds, however, there is still no demand. We quote, as before, prime malting, 3s 3d to 3s 6,1; fair malting, 3s per bushel.
