AUSTRALIAN FRESH. MEAT.

The London correspondent of the Town ami Country Journal, with respect to the above, writes as follows : —“ The project of a company for the importation of frozen fresh meat from Australia does not take in England. The default of contributors is in a great measure, no doubt, caused by British ignorance of the true value and safety of Australian investments, an ignorance which only time can cure, hut which, of course, will he cured in the long run. There is also some reasonable dread not only of American competition, but likewise of the facilities afforded by American importations to butchers and meat avoids fur fraudulent sale. But neither can the warmest friends of Australia shut their eyes to the mischief done to Australian interests, through a low class of.newa papers and orators iu the colonies by extravagant puffery of everything Australian, by fictitious stimulation of Australian prices in the stock market and elsewhere, and by rabid clamour and abuse of anyone who ventures, however conscientiously, to take an unfavorable view of any colonial feature, as happened in the case of the late Agent General in his ‘ Vicwsof Colonisation.’ It would seem as if some of your public writers and speakers expect every truth to he suppressed apparently unfavorable to the country. The consequence is that when the truth docs leak out, as it will inevitably, a reaction takes place, which extends its depreciatory effect to those cases in which truth is not only agreeable, hut might he beneficial to the colonies ’’
