A Melbourne telegram states that M. Soudry, the French Commissioner, who was wounded at the Opera House, was a passenger for Europe by the Garonne. A youth named Bell, who offered the Premier of. New South Wales, LSO as a bribe to secure an appointment, has been brought to trial and discharged on his own recognisances.
At Wanganui the hands employed in the local tailoring establishment resist the proposed reduction, approaching 20 per cent., and have struck.
It is understood that, notwithstanding Sir H. Robinson’s departure from the Colony, his horses will perform at the Canterbury meeting. At Christchurch, on the 11th instant, out of 178 unemployed on the books of the Pubdc Works Office only 20 appeared. Ned Kelly has been committed for trial on October 14th.
A Melbourne telegram states that a match has been arranged at Home between the Australian Eleven and an All England Eleven.
At a sheep sale held at Melbourne recently, Mr Gardiner, of New Zealand, bought Adelaide rams at 180 to 120 guineas.
Ned Kelly has been brought back to Melbourne from Beechworfeh. A Sydney telegram says that news has come to band, that the native king of Tahiti has abdicated, and that it has been proclaimed a French colony. The weather at Christchurch during the past ten days has been very warm, and vegetation is springing into life rapidly. The winter lias been exccp’ionably mild, not much rain, and few frosts.
In imitation of the London Sportsman, the Editor of the Canterbury Times announces a prize of LSO for the person or persons who place the first three horses in theC.J. C. Handicap. -
On the 13th ins'ant, a Maori escaped from the Wellington gaol ; he left word with some of his relatives that as soon as an alteration was made in the quality of the food and blankets supplied, he promised to write, stating when they might expect his return.
Mrs Greer, who was shot by her husband at the Opera-house, Melbourne, if fast recovering.

A Sydney telegram states that a box con taming 120 iz of gold from Cookfcown, ad' dressed “ City Bank,” arrived here empty. At Melbourne, New Zealand oats are quo ted at 2-> 6 1 to 2s 7d. ; best milling qualities firm.
Mrs Greer, of the Melbourne Opera house tragedy sails for England in October. When Nod Kelly was committed for trial he was very dull, and observing some girls smiling at lam said, “ If they were in my position they would not smile ranch.” A disgraceful scene has occurred at the M orks Office, Melbourne. A crowd of unemployed were clamoring for work, and Mr Langridge went out to expostulate with them. Mi* Bent, cx-Minister, came forward, and repeatedly called Mr Langridge a liar.
A newspaper correspondent in Melbourne writes to an evening paper and states that the police shot Aaron Sherritt.
At Sydney, a dork named Evans, emyloyed in the Land Department, was sent to cash a cheque for LIS. He changed the figures to LBIS and received tile larger sum. It is supposed that he has gone to California, and steps will be taken to bring him back.
The Harbor Board at Napier have decided to reduce all salaries. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of one Johnston, assistant clerk at the Magistrate’s Court at Masterton, for embezzling L3O of Court monies. it is stated that the P. and 0. stcamcra will be regular traders to Wellington, and that that place will be the distributing port.
During the week ending the 17th instant the Christchurch Benevolent Association gave relief to seventy-four persons.
