They may be worth their study, and repay perusal in enlightening them upon a subject of pr actical utility. The History or the Essence’s Discovery. The Australian anti-fever tree- that is the blue gum, or eucalyptus globulus— has now spread its fame throughout the world, but there are many who do not properly estimate its splendid qualities. It has been estimated that the Australian blue gums, which stud the face of the Colony, contain about five hundred million gallons of pure volatile oil, that is the mortal foe of fever and ague. Every day in the year the forests of the colony are giving out and exhaling in the form of vapour, air aromatic fragrance to our breezes, and a health-giving essence to our people. This fact is now recognised by all scientists in the world Its Claim as a Curative. It has now become the fashion with the inventors of discoveries of remedial agents to claim something little short of infalltbi ity and universability of cure for their respective agents. Messrs Bander and Sons did nothing of the sort. They have conlhlenco that their essence possesses many virtues ; hut the full extent of those they do not know yet. They arc now collecting data, and they are most careful and searching in performing this. It is quite s ire thou, that th' ir eucalypti essence can fairly assert itself to be a grand panacea for many of the ills that flesh is heir to. In Scarlet, Typhoid, or an;/ case o- Freer, nothing will protect better against contagion than a few drops of the essence p aired in the palm of the baud, and nibbed in, in order to liberate the vapors, or sprinkled over the clothes. The essence streets a most surprising change of the whole constitution, correcting indigestion, and cleat ing a healthy appetite. Fur Chi'dreu Attending Selma's, the same mode may he adopted. In Vases if >ick;o ss, n few drops put into a saucer, and put into the room will. Icing an ethcvic essence, evaporate, and till the room with the purifying vapor. Are you obliged to Travel! A few drops occasionally rubbed on the body, will pro tect against any contagion you may be exposed to, in coming direct with sick persons, or in sleeping in ihe same room with, or in beds occupied previously by sick persons. All Hotelkeepers will do well t • sprinkle from time to time in drawers where linen is usually kept, a few drops of the pure essential essence. I t produces no spots whatever, as every particle of it evaporates, ami nothing r, m tins, hi short, where a dish fecUwt is needed. the pure essential eucalypti essence ought to he the one you have recourse to, and no family oii'jbt 1o be without it. For all ll’onu Is, Cuts, Darns, Scoldings, Ulcers, and Cancerous Wounds, a piece of linen wrapped round the suffering part, and moistened with a few drops of the eucalypti essence, will stop all pain, and effect a speedy cure. In cases where a piece of linen cannot he applied, the moistening of the suffering part with the pure essence will do as well. tn case of Colds, moisten the nostrils with a few drops and inhale the vapour, and you will feel immediate relief, and entire riddance of the heat. In all cases where Ihe Lungs may he A ffected, the above-mentioned process, continually repeated, will be the best that can be advised. In cases nf Rheumatism, a mixture of one part of the pure essential eucalypti essence with three parts of spirits of wine, well rubbed in the suffering part, has acted better than any other remedy. In all cases of Inflammation, the essence may be applied' to the part affected. In screrc cases of Toothache of rheumatic origin, the pure essence may be applied on the external part of the face. In crises of I nflam motion of the Fi/es, apply the pure essence to the outside of the eyelids. Headache, and Rheumatic Pains in the Head are positively cured and removed by rubbing the essence on the affected parts. Fur many eases of Severe Bruises the essence lias proved the best remedy.
