ST. MICHAEL’S & ALL ANGEL.S CHURCH, CLYDE.

A meeting of the congregation was held in the Committee Room of the Public Library, Clyde, on Tuesday evening last, to consider ways and means. The Rev. i'ynes Clinton in the chair.

Mr J. E. Stevens, Churchwarden, said through a variety of causes' the Vestry found themselves in debt to the extent of about 1.5 I, and the meeting was convened to consider what was the better course to he adopted to raise money to liquidate the debt. The Vestry after consultation thought that by means of a gift auction the difficulty could be easily overcome, and the plan he thought was a good one as it would come light on all. He explained that the effecting of necessary repairs to the parsonage to make it habitable for the present occupant—Rev. Mr Clinton—had materially increased the debt.

The Chairman said from past experience lie had found gift auctions the best mode that could be adopted for raising funds, and it remained for the meeting to say if the suggestion of the Vestry should be ■carried out.

After some conversation it was decided to hold a gift auction in aid of the Church funds.

The appointment of a Committee of Management was proceeded with, and about a dozen gentlemen agreed to act. The Rev. Mr OSuten undertook the duties of Secretary.

Small details of advertising having been arranged, and a meeting of the Committee to be held on the 3rd August to report progress being agreed to, the meeting separated.
