Beneath the rule of men entirely JUST pen is mightier than iiteawoßD
To put it. as mildlv as possible, the news in our Wellington correspon dent’s telegram uncut the stoppage of subsidies to local bodies, and the nonpayment of the sui plus land fund, is an eye-opener, and to the Vincent County Councillors will prove a very hard nut to crack The loss of L 12,000 is no trifling one, and to surmount the difficulty will tax not alone the skill but the energy of the Council to the utmost. To our mind it is a disgraceful act of repudiation on the part of the Government ; and if they withstand the shock of indignation that will be raised against them by the friends and supporters of the County system, they may be considered safe in their ollice.
