FROZEN MEAT EXPORTATION.
In connexion with the recent shipment of frozen meat to England, a rather important communication has just been received by Mr Carlo Marina, of Moppity inN.S. Wales. It appears that at the time of the Strathleven’s departure Mr Marina had arranged to send home sheep with the skins on, and for thia'purpose a considerable number were killed, dressed inside and frozen. At the last moment, however, it was considered injudicious, seeing that the shipment of the meat itself was an entirely new experiment, to prejudice the chances of success by introducing any unnecessary element of risk. It was determined, therefore, not to place Mr Marina’s sheep on,hoard, hut an exception was made in.favor of one carcase, with what result will be seen on perusal of the two appended letters' lately] received hy Mr Marina. The first]letter is from the lion, treasurer —“ The account sales] of the Stratlilcven was as follows. Your sheep in the pelt sold 701b. at 7d.—L2 4s, 41.. Special mention made of sheep in the skit, and the sheep after hanging a week, parted from its jacket as,readily as a freshly killed animal. ” The second letter was to the same effect, but further stated that it was the best way of sending the mutton home.
