THE MURIELLE GEMS.
The Murielle Gems performed to two very good houses in the Town Hall, Clyde, on Friday and Saturday last. The company comprises some new members since the last appearance of Millie. Murielle in this district. The principal feature was the charming ballad singing of Mdlle Murielle, and she was ably assisted by Mr Gray, the buffo singer ; Mr Manning, ventriloquist; while M. de Fremont con lucted the musical part. Among the new eongs contributed by Mdlle. Murielle may be noticed “Sweethearts,” “Barney O’Hea,” and “ Courting in the Rain.” The two latter are serio-comic songs, ami fairly brought down the house. She has made herself so popular, and her singing is so universally admired, that it is almost unnecessary to do more than mention that she was in firstclass voice, filr Manning’s portion of the entertainment was very amusing and well sustained. In the ventriloquial part the figures introduced were managed very cleverly and the illusion was perfect. In his impersonations of celebrated people the audience were load in their expressions of approval—Moulton, the Pain Paint Vendor, Pastor Chiniquy, and the Rev. Charles Clark, being admirably rendered, while Hoskins, as Shylock, was done to the life. Mr Gray, while suffering from severe cold, acquitted himself well, and his stump speech evoked roars of laughter. The beautiful comedietta “ Six Months after Marriage,” played the first evening, was well sustained, and the Page’s Song from “ Les Hugenots,” introduced by Mdlle. Murielle, was rendered most exquisitely. We understand that it Herr Wanganheim, detained in Dunedin by severe indisposition, is able to join them this week, they will favour ns with another visit on their way to the Teviot, and from what we have heard his assistance would be invaluable in favouring us again with some of the operettas which charmed all on Mdlle. Wurielle’s previous tour. They performed at Cromwell on Monday and Tuesday, and were rewarded with good houses on both occasions.
