STOCK REPORT.
Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week ending 28th April :
Fat Cattle. —IIKS head wore yarded at Burnside to-day. The dcniand was fairly good, and last wesk's pnrea were about maintained. Bullocks sold at from .Co 7s Oil to £lO 12s 5d per head, and cows at £4 7s (51 to £7 us. We quote prime beef 22s (5d per 1001b. Fat sbeep wore in full supply, ,1810 having been penned. Crnss-breds, of which the greater part consisted, realised from 8s 3d to ISs, and merinos Os 3d per head. There were in addition, about 100 ) merino stores, which sold at from 2s til to 4r tM. The demand was sutlieicntly active to clear the market, but a decline on last week's prices had to lie submitted to. AA'e placed, on account of Mr Edward Swallow, IST bead at prices ranging np to IDs 9d ; and on account of Mr Henry Elston, 99 head at 8s 91. Prime mutton may be quoted fully 1 d peril). Eat lambs,—lo3 were panned, which
sold Ss Gd to Ids 3d, according to size and quality. Wo disposed of 41 head, on account of Mr Listen, at 8s tkl to !)s. Store Sheep. We have buyers fora large number of store sheep, both meiinos and crosa-breds, which we are unable to supply. We have placed 1000 full-mouthed incline ewes.
Wool.—A careful inspection of priced catalogues of the February London auctions fully confirms the favourable advices previously received by telegraph. As already indicated, the improvement upon L’crcmbcr rates was no-St conspicuous in the case of combing merino and eross-breda wools, consequent chiefly upon . Continental and American demand. The returns from these sales must be highly gratifying to shippers. We have received the following t-'iegram from our Loudon etiic-j inspecting the second scries now in progress “The sales opened with spirit on Lie; 20th instant at an average advance of 1-1 to lid on previous tale prices. The opening catalogue contained 871)0 bales, and the sales will comprise about HSU.OOO bales. 30,DU0 hales have been sent to the manufacturing districts is not so good. Contiuo.ital markets are lightly stocked. The advance in prices since last sales may be quoted as follows : Greasy and clothing washed, Id per II; ; combing washed, 2d : scoured Id to IJd ; cross-bred, superior greasy, and superior combing washed, id to Id per lb. For lambs’ wool, the maiket is unchanged. The sales will close on 12th of June, and the next series will commence on 17th August." Other telegrams report crossbred as riding ah. Nt Fcnrurry price’, but all accounts concur in recording cominued lirmntss in the market. At our sale on Monday we cleared a few lots of g; easy wool at full prices—namely, lien Uhou, 3 bales fleece, t'.i-l ; 2 do pieces, 7jd ; Kastboume, 2do meiim.i, Grjd ; 1 do dingy, 7 4• 1 ; G in circle, Ido merino, flijd ; V in diamond, 1 do fleece, llj.l ; 1 do part pieces, 7-1: I bag locks, .‘M ; C2, -1 hags llecce at (j-d, and pieces, 4 jd per lb.
Sheepskins.—We offered a large catalogue on Monday, and wiih go id competition, cleared the whole at satisfactory prices. Butchers’ cross-bred skins foMied Is 1 M to Ms (id ; merinos is ,7 1 to 2s 7.1 ; station full-woolcd skins up to 7s ; lambskins, la 71 to 2s o-l.
Hid; Q - The danm-.d continues unabated at our last week’s quotations of 2-Is each for butchers’ green bides and UJ-d pec lb for wot salted.
Tallow. —We report sales up to 25s for fair quality ; rough fat may be quoted at 16s per cwt. Grain, —"Wheat is in full supply-, ami values lately current are scarcely sustained. In the absence of demand, quotations would be only nominal. Oats : Pun-bases {or shipment have been made at Is 4d per bushel. For local's insumpti m the demand ii very poor, and there is no inclination on the part of buyers to purchase beyond tempi r:,ry requirements. Small parcels of feed oats have changed hands at 15.‘51 to Is -Id for fair to good, which is the highest price obtainable for tins description. Fine milling samples might realise Is 51 to !s fid, but the. demand is very limited.. Harley ; We quote is malting at from .‘is to ds ;).l the bushel -the latter quo’a! inn for the finest samples, but business passing is to a very limited extent. For milling there is scarcely any demand ; we quote 2; Od to 3s par bushel.
