London, April 20th. New Zealand securities arc without quotable change. Adelaide breadstuff's have further declined ; wheat, per 4951b, ex warehouse, 39s 6d. New Zealand wheat is untouched Australian beef tallow remains at 32s 6d; best mutton has declined tid per cwt., and is now quoted at 345. Arrived : Huruuui, ship, from Lyttelton. She left on January 23rd. The Lochnagar, which left Gisborne on January 9th, has also arrived. The new seiies of Colonial wool auction was opened to-day. The quantity catalogued was 85,300 bales. The tone of the sales was strong, with an animated demand. Greasy is Id higher ; washed and scoured, Ijd higher. There was a large attendance of Home and Foreign buyers. The auction close on June 12th. The steamship Norfolk has left Plymouth.

There was a good demand at today’s auction, and cross-breds wore firmer. April 22ud. The Beaconsfield Ministry have tendered their resignation to the Queen. It is stated that Her Majesty accepts the same, and has summoned Lord Harrington to form a new Ministry. Mr Montague Corrie, C.8., Private •Secretary to Earl Beaconsfield when Prime Minister, has been raised to the Peerage. Sir Charles Gavan Duffy, late Speaker of the Victorian Assembly, has been invited to stand for an Irish borough in the Home Rule interest. April 23rd. The resignation of the Ministry has been accepted, and the Marquis of Harrington has boon summoned by the Queen. April 23rd. The total revenue in notes and bullion in the Bank of England is L 16,252,000, being a quarter of a million more than last week. April 23rd.
The Marquis of Hartington after an audience with the Queen returned to London, and had an interview with Earl Granville and the Hon. Mr Gladstone. He returns to Windsor to-day, when it is expected ho will decline the task of forming a new Ministry, but will propose Mr Gladstone, who will probably be summoned by Her Majesty to-day. Later.—The Eight Hon Mr Gladstone has been summoned by the Quean. April 24th. Mr Gladstone has been appointed First Lord of the Treasury and Chancellor of the Exchequer. He has accepted the task of forming a new Ministry. It is probable that Earl Granville will accept office as Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. Calcutta, April 23rd. Intelligence has been received of the resumption of hostilities in Afghanistan, A severe attack was made on General Stewart’s force on the 19th instant, in the vicinity of Ghuznee, by 15,000 Afghans, A serious conflict ensued, and resulted in tho defeat of enemy with heavy loss. The British loss is unknown. General Stewart’s vanguard entered Ghuznee on the 20th. I London, April 23rd. The total quantity of wheat afloat for Great Britain is 120,000 quarters, being 120,000 quarters less than last week. At tho woll sales to-day 10,900 bales
were offered. Prices continue firm, an active demand is maintained. April 24th. At to-day’s wool auction 11,700 bales were offered, making a total of 52,200 catalogued since the opening. Prices are firm, and an active demand was again shown at the sale. April 20. Mr Gladstone is engaged in the formation of a new Ministry, and has already filled the following offices Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Earl Granville ; Secretary of State for India, the Marquis of Hartoigton ; First Lord of the Admiralty, Earl Northbrook ; Lord High Chancellor, Lord Selborne; Secretary of State for War, Mr Childers ; Chief Secretary for Ireland, Mr W. B. Forster. Mr Gladstone, as previously telegraphed, will hold office as First Lord of the Treasury and Chancellor of Exchequer.
The following cable messages appear in Melbourne papers : The Channel squadron has been despatched to the Azores to search for H.M. ship Atalanta, the training-ship which succeeded the Eurydice when the latter was lost. Nothing has been heard of the Atalanta for 72 days. Her crew numbered 300. Mr Parnell has been elected for three seats. '• ■; ;; V
The Daily Telegraph states that Prince Leopold is created Duke of Albany. The Viscorapte De Lesseps intends to visit the principal towns of Great Britain for the purpose of promoting his Panama Canal scheme.

The Empress Eugenie arrived at the Cape in good health.
The Daily News says it is understood at Portsmouth that the Prince of Wales visits Australia next autumn in the Serapis.
