STOCK REPORT.
Mr Donald Stronach (on behalf of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited) reports as follows for the week ending 21st April Fat Cattle —At Burnside to-day 152 head were yarded and met a good demand, which resulted in an improvement upon lust week’s prices of os per 1001b. Bullocks realised LG 15s to Lll per bead, and cow's LG 5s to L 7 10s per bead, equal to 2os per 1001b. for prime and 20s for medium beef, which may be given as to-day’s quotations.
Fat sheep were in good supply, 2853 having been penned. Demand was fair, merinos fetched os 9d to os, and cross-breds 9s to 12s 3d per head. We sold a draught on account of Mr Walter Miller, of Mount Stewart. Quotation for prime mutton we give same as last week, 2d per lb. Fat Lambs.—B3 were brought forward, which sold at 8s Gd per head. Store Sheep.—Good cross breds are iu demand for fattening, but the supply is very limited. Wool.—Transactions in this market are now to a very small extent. We disposed of a few bales of wool on Monday at prices quite equal to previous current rates, viz., greasy wool as follows:—AB, 1 bale, fleece, GJ ; Waibaorunga, 3 do, cross bred, 9jd ; do, 1 do, merino, 10(d; do, 1 do, sandy, BJd ; do, 1 do, double fleece, part pieces, ; do, 1 do, locks and pieces, 5| ; M, 1 do, pieces, s|; do, 2 cio washed pieces, "id.
Sheepskins.—At our weekly auction on Monday last wc cleared a large catalogue. The atteudanco of buyers was large, ‘and competition spirited, 'ibices realised were as follows ; —Butchers’ skins, from 2a 3d to ss, according to quality : pelts and station skins, from 9d to 4s '3d ; skins in bales, (ijd per lb ; Lambskins, la 9d to 3a Id each.
Hides. —We repeat our quotations of 20a each for butchers’ green hides, and 3jd per lb for wet salted, at which we cau place all consignments coming forward. Tallow.—Demand continues fair. We have sold for local consumption parcels of medium to fair at from 22a to 20a per cwt. j and rough fat at 10s per cwt. Grain. —Vi heat: The state of the market has undergone no improvement, and we confirm our remarks of last week. Rather than submit to present current prices many farmers have arranged to try the Home market. Oats : Transactions have been within a small compass, at Is 3d to Is did per bushel,_ or even lower, for fair to good feed. In milling, no sales have transpired, Is 5(1 to Is (id might possibly be obtained for prime samples Barley : Sales of fine malting are reported at 3s lid, holders however are unwilling to sell at present quotations* and for the finest samples. 3s 9d might bo obtained ; millers’ demand is very slack, ami for parcels suitable for them, we cannot quote above 2s 9d to 3s per bushel.
