From a report received by last mail, issued by the central committee in Glasgow for raising and distributing funds for the relief of the shareholders of the City of Glasgow Bank who were ruined by the disastrous bankruptcy of that institution, detailing the operations of the committee up to the 31st December, 1ST!), wo find that the total amount of subscriptions intimated up to that date from all sources was L3S9, 42S Is Id, of which the amount paid was L 262,230 Is 10d, leaving L 127,107 19s 31, which consists of portions of sums originally subscribed by instalments, and to be paid hereafter. Of the L2G2,230 Is lOd received., Scotland has paid 1.244,073 10s 4d (inclusive'of L 57.263 Is Id. paid by.Olas-. gniv out of L1G2.805 I3s and England has paid 1-12,114 Cs Gd. Owing doubtless, to the distressed condition of Ireland, no subscriptions appear to have been received from that quarter. The sub-
soriptiona from all other parts—ami whieh have been paid in cash—amount to 1,5,441 Ills 3J, of which tho Australasion colonics have contributed Li,051 -it 9.1, and all other foreign countries L 1,390 11s 31. The amounts received from tho Australasian colonies are as follows :—Melbourne and Fitz roy and other suburbs contributed L 1,778, and local subscribers in Warnambool contributed 1.05 ss, making together for Victoria, LI, B*3 sr. A perusal of the report shows that great care and circumspection are being exorcised in the distribution aud investment of the fund. It must be gratifying to the subscribers in this and the other Australian colonies to know that, notwithstanding depression in business and many calls upon them for local aid, their sympathy for their distressed friends in Scotland has assumed tho substantial form of moneys amounting to one third of the subscriptions raised iu all Kngland, and to three-fourths of all the money that Ins been raised throughout the world outside of Great Britain for the relief of the shareholders of the ruined bank.
