DUNSTAN DISTRICT HOSPITAL ENTERTAINMENTS.

On Saturday evening last at Clyde, an fe entertainment of a taried character was | giving in the Town Hall to the largest I audience that has for a long time gathered under the roof. The object of the enter- I tainment was in aid of the funds of the j Dunstan District Hospital, and magnanimously was the call responded to. The en- I tertainment comprised “ Drama, Opera, | Reading, and Ballad singing and in saying i that the cast of the varied characters w; s simply perfection, we shall but speak the I; sentiments of all who were present. In the Dramatic Representation of “ Box and Cox" II Mdlle Muriclle as Mrs Bouncer, Mr Pyko | as Mr Cox (a hatte-) and Mr A. D. Harvey I as Mr Box (a printer) each and all were I imitabahle and succeeded in gaining most ! rapturous applause. For this piece some special scenery had hecii prepared and when everything was in its place' the stage | lookc 1 quite pretty and to the scenic artist Alfred Moore no small credit is due The | Opera, were selections from H.M.S. Pina- t. fore, Mdlle. Muriclle taking the dual parts of Mrs Shipton, the bum-boat woman, and ! also that of Josephine ;Mr Pyke as Sir | Joseph Porter; and Mr Macgeorge as Cap- I tain Corcoran. This was an undoubted I treat, the voices suiting admirably to the I songs selected. Then followed a melange, t Mdlle. Muriclle, Mrs Leahy, Miss Hastie, I and Messrs Macgeorge and Holden singing, f and Messrs Keddell and Leahy reading, j each in their place did remarkably well, I and received well merited applause. A | performer of no mean character throughout p the entertainment we havff purposely re- f framed from mentioning ore this so as to cn- j able us to give a decided expression. W® l| allude to the pirnhsto (Miss O’Brien)—this | young lady is a performer of no mean or- I dor, with fine touch and good execution, 8 and equally at home whether accompany- 11 a solo or chorus, or performing some diffi- | cult piece. In Pinafore she did good service. I We must perforce give a parting note of I praise to Mdlle. Mnrielle—she is a lady of very quick perception, with remarkable fluency of speech, and with a ready faculty of turning from one subject to another ; sho has a sweet voice, with good compass, and very effective in the higher notes, and we ! think in Opera Bonffe sho will have but few superiors. On the following Tuesday at Alexandra, and on Thursday at Blacks the same programme, with hut few exceptions was repeated, and in each place was well received. We do not know the exact proceeds of the three entertainments, but wo do not think LSO will he far short of tiro mark. That amount subsidized by pound for pound will make a very handsome offering, and in the names of the Committee of Management we accord the entire Com* pan y a hearty vote ot thanks.
