THE LONGWOOD REEFS.

A party on the 19th inst. consisting of Messrs Blair and Hirst, M. U.K.’s ; Mitch I, chairman of the Bluff Harbour Board ; Nugent Wood. H. M. ; air I Osborne, visited Printz’s claim, Longwood, to-day. The result of a conversation with these gentlemen, most of whom have no interest in the mines, convinces me that a most valuable discovery has been made, the full extent of which can only he as yet guessed at. Smite remarkably rich quartz has been taken out, and I have seen specimens of some of the mushed stone, and also of the stone as taken out This stone would undoubtedly go hundreds of ounces to the Con. A great many pieces of the sold are larg-r Ih in a pin’s ii-ad. There is a good 'eal of ironsand mixed up with the gold. A sample of quartz has been taken out and sealed up, and it. is to he caished and carefully weighed off by twoof the local bankers, mid the result, will lie telegraphed to you in a few days As the machinery will tie erected within three months, and theqnes cion of the quantity of so ,d stone available will soon be teste I, there is nothing to justify a premature opinion. All I can say is that if the lode turns out as many comnetent men who have s<-en it expects, one ■-f the most wonderful quartz mines in New Zealand will soon he developed. Dunedin capitalist* should set their faces against the wild speculation which will prabahly follow on i’rintz’s first crushing.
