The following is Professor Black’s repott : “ University, Dunedin. Otago, New Zealand Laboratory. Class—Beverages. November sth, 1575. I have examined for Mr J D. Ferand, of Monte Chiisto, Hyde, Otago, two samples of Aromatic Tonic Bitters, with the following result No. 527 is a sherry colored, and No. B'2Sis a port wine red colored liquid ; they are both perfectly transparent showing the purity of the water and other substances employed in their manufacture. These two beverages have a slight acid chemical reaction, and possess an agreeable cool bitter taste, blended with a sensation of sweetness, arising from the saehariue matter of the fruit of which they are the fermented extract. 1 have also examined the aromatic and other flavoring substances used by Mr Ferand in their mannfactiii e, and from the proportions in which they are blended " i; li the fruit wine, they must he pronounced perfectly safe, ami free from anything like deleterious properties. I consider this wine, therefore, an agreea- | ble and perfectly safe bov -ra ro, and when . diluted with three or four times their bulk ; of water, they will make a good cooling summer drink.
