PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH BAZAAR AT ALEXANDRA.

| The Bazaar and Gift Auction in aid of I reducing the debt on the Presbyterian Church, Alexandra, was held in the Town Hall on Friday and Saturday lust, and the most sanguine expectations of its promoters were more than realised. The ladies on whom had fallen the task of collecting articles for disposal had shown that they had not been idle by the large and varied assortment—from a cow to a pill—of goods which they had prevailed upon the public to contribute. The hall had been divided into four stalls, and on these were most tastefully arranged the articles for sale. The two fancy goods stalls were presided over by Mrs Lothian, Mis Simmonds, Mrs Vause, and Misses Odell, G> Iding (2), Telford, and Paget. Mr Heney attended to the refreshment department, and Mr Hansen had charge of the provision stall. Besides the articles men ioued, there were in the retiring room geese, turkeys, and fowls in dozens, anil the neighbouring squatters had liberally contributed 17 sheep, 6 lambs, ami a cow The bazaar was formally declared open by Mr Finlay about 7 o’clock on Friday evening, and from that time till alter 11 the hall was uncomfortably full. The ladies were most persevering in their exertions to extract shillings and halfcrowns from their visitors, and how successful they were the sum collected will show. The Alexandra Brass Baud played a few selections, and Mr Rees contributed a song during the evening, after which Mr Fache officiated as auctioneer in disposing of the live stock and more perishable goods. The Bazaar was again kept open until a late hour mi Saturday, the attendance being as large as on the preceding day Everything not otherwise disposed of was then sold by auction It was very unfortunate that the Rev. Mr Lothian was precluded from taking any part in the proceedings, owing to severe illness, but we are now pleased to report that he is rapidly recovering. Too much praise cannot be civen to those ladies and gentlemen who undertook the carrying nut of the affair, and also to those who so liberally contributed both in the shape of presents and by their attendance, and by suectal request w T e desire to convey the sincere thanks of the Church Committee to one and all who so kin by and effectively contributed to the success of the Bazaar. We are informed that he Church Fan I will benefit to the extent of considerably ovei one hundred pouu Is. Not bad ! these dull times
