“ Lives of great men all remind us, We can make our lives sublime ; And, departing, leave behind us Footprints on the sands of time.” UIE above is read wftli great interest by thousands of young men. It inspires thorn with Horn, for in the bright lexicon of youth there is no such word as fail. Alas 1 say 1 many,' this is cor-rect,—-is true with regard to the youth who has never abused his strength—and to the man who has not been “ passiou’s(slave.” But to that youth—to thatfman, who has wasted his vigor, who has yielded himself up to the temporary sweet allurements of vice, who has given unbridledjlicense to his passions, to him the above lines are but as a reproach. What Horn can he have? What aspirations ? What chance of leaving his footprints on the sands of time ? For him, alas’! there is nought but dark despair and self reproach/or a lost life. For a man to’,leave his footprints on the sands of time, ho must be endowed with a strong brain and nervous power. He must possess a sound, vigorous healthy' mind, in a healthy body—the power to conceive—the energy to execute ! But look at our Australian youth ! See the emaciated form, . the vacant look, the listless hesitating manner, the nervous distrust, the senseless, almost idiotic expression. Note his demeanour and conversation, and then say, Is that a man to leave his footprints on the sands of time. Do parents, medical men and educators of youth pay sufficient attention to this subject ? Do they ever ascertain the cause of this decay ; and having done so, do they (as a strict sense of duty demands) seek the skilled advice of the medical man, who has made this branch of his profession his particular specialty, whose life has been devoted to the treatment of these cases? Header, what is your answer ? Let each one answer for himself. Parents see their progeny fading gradually before their sight, see them become emaciated old young men, broken down in health, enfeebled, unfitted for the battle of life ; yet one word might save them, one sound and vigorous health-giving letter from a medical man, habituated to the treatment and continuous supervision of such cases, would, in most instances, succeed in warding off the impending doom of a miserable and gloomy future, and by appropriate treatment restore the enervated system to its natural vigor, and ensure a joyous and happy life.
