Lond -n, September 12th. Tt is reported in Simla that Yakoob Khan has neon assassinated by the fanatical murder -ra of Cavagnari. The Ameer was bcseiged for several days in the palace. He resolutely repudiated the treachery of the rebels. Cabul is cnmpletelv in the hands of the mutinous soldiers, who have looted the city, committing revolting outrages on the inhabitants. The British troops are advancing by forced marches on Cabul, hitnerto without encountering any resistence. Tie Imperial G vermnentt contemplate adopting measures to limit the borrowing powers of the Colonies. London, September 11th. The roads to Cabul are occupied by large bodies of hostile irregular troops, principally of the mountain tribes. Melbourne, September 12th. A Herald message slates that a strong force of British troops is advancing by rapid marches on Cabul, regardless of the insufficiency of transports, with the object of inflicting a speedy and condign punishment.
The Russian army simultaneously commenced to ma ch on Merv. The Indian Government officially deny being forewarned of the fate of Cavagnari. It is believed the result of the new campaign will be to alter the previous conditions between th<* Vieeroy and Ameer. The Prince of Wales is making arrangements to visit Australia, and the Government are taking measures to provide for tie contingency of the Queen’s death before his return.

Bombay, September 13th. The mutineers at fahnl have acted, and are still acting, without a leader. They are endeavouring to incite the tribes to attack General Roberts’ flank at Stnturgenum, which was reoccnpied on receipt of news of the massacre No hostile movement has yet taken place.
A letter from the Ameer to the Viceroy written subsequent to the massacre, declares his sincere friendship hut there being conflicting accounts as to his sincerity and attitude, the Indian Government were somewhat distrustful of the sincerity of his protestations, and General Roberts received instructions to ask him to prove his friendship in a practical manner.
