THE ELECTIONS.

The nomination of candidates to fill the Dinistan seat in the House of Representatives, took plac iat the II M. Court-house, Clyde, at noon on Wednesday last. There was a good show of electors present. The Returning Officer having read the writ and the advertisement referring to it, called upon the electors to nominate candidates.

Mr David Jones (Bannockburn) proposed Mr Vincent Pyke as a fit and proper per-on.

Mr John Bennett (Conroy’s Gully) seconded.

There being no other candidates, Major K huell declared Mr Vincent Pyke ro he duly elected member for the Dunstan District of the if Ouse of Representatives

Mr Pvks came forward and sai l—Gentlemen, I will not detain yon on this occasion, as I purpose ou Friday evening next at Cromwc‘l. aid on .an earlv date at Clyde, giving a 1 dress' sou tbs political situation. 1 may say, however, that I am more pleased than words con express at being returned unopposed, .as ir, clearly shows th it I have the confidence of the whole district, and will enable me u> address the House from my seat with more confidence than if the election had been contested. As I said before I will not now detain you, as I hope to meet you at .an early date both at Cromwell and • - lydo. I again thank you for the honour you have dons me, and propose a vote of thanks to the Returning Officer.
