They may he worth their study, and repay perusal in enlightening them upon a subject of practical utility. The History of the Essence's Discovery. The Australian anti-fever tree- that is the blue gum, or eucalyptus globulus— has now spread its fame throughout the world, hut there are many who do not properly estimate its splendid qualities. /it has been estimated that the Australian''blue gums, which stud |he face of the Gqjony, contain about five hundred million gallons of pure volatile oil, that is tjjfe mortal foe of fever and ague. Every day in theyear the forests of the colonyrire giving out £ud exhaling in the fornfot vapour, an aromatic fragrance to our breezes, and a healtlggiving essence to our people. This fact is/uow recognised by all scientists in the world Its Claim as a Curative. ft has now become the fashion with the inventors of discoveries of remedial agents to claim something little short of infallihi.it y and universability of cure for their respective agents. Messrs Sander and Sons did nothing of the sort. They have confidence that their essence possesses many virtues ; but the full extent of these they do not know yet. They are now collecting data, and they arc most careful and searching in performing this. It is quite sure then, that their eucalypti essence can fairly assert itself to be a grand panacea for many of the ills that tiesh is heir to. In Scarlet, Typhoid , or any cone of Fever, nothing will protect, better against contagion than a few drops of the essence poured in the palm of the hand, and rubbed in, in order to liberate the vapors, or sprinkled over the clothes. The perfume will he noticed for a length of tirno. Inwardly need, take three or four drops in half a tumbler of water. The essence effects a most sur prising change of the whole constitution, correcting indigestion, and creat ing a healthv appetite. For Children Attending Schools, the same, mode may be adopted. In Cases of.Sickness, a few drops put into a saucer, and put into the room will, being an etherie essence, evaporate, and till the room with the purifying vapor. Are youobliged to Travel! A few drops occasionally rubbed on the body, will protect against any contagion you trtay be exposed to. in coming direct with sick persona, or in sleeping in the same room with, or in beds occupied previously by sick persons. All Hotelkeepers will do well to sprinkle from time to time in drawers where linen is usually kept, a few drops of the pure essential essence. It produces no spots whatever, as every particle of it evaporates, and nothing remains. In short, where n disinfectant is needed, the pure essential eucalypti essence ought to he the one you have recourse to, and uo family ought to he without it. For all Wounds, Cuts, Burns, Scaldings. Ulcers, and Cancerous Hounds, a piece of linen wrapped round the suffering part, and moistened with a few drops of the eucalypti essence, will stop all pain, and effect a speedy cure. In cases where a piece of linen cannot be applied, the moistening of the suffering part with the pure essence will do as well. In case of Colds, moisten the nostrils with a few drops and inhale the vapour, an i you will feel immediate relief, and entire riddance of the heat. In all cases where the Lungs nay he Affected, the above-mentioned proee.-s, jontinnally repeated, will be the best that can be advised. In cases of Rheumatism, a mixture of one part of the pure essential eucalypti essence with three parts of spirits of wine, well rubbed in the suffering part, has acted hotter than any other remedy. In all cases of Inflammation, the essence may he applied to the part affected. In severe cases of Toothache of rheumatic origin, the pure essence may be applied on the external part of the face. In cases of Inflammation of the Eyes, apply the pure essence to the outside of the eyelids. Headache, and Rheumatic Pains in the Head are positively cured and removed by rubbing tiro essence on the affected parts. For many rases of Severe Bruises the essence has proved the best remedy.
