The Mount Ida Jockey Club has decided to realize on their grand stand, and with that view has placed it in the hands of the local auctioneer to sell by auction. There is a Club, or rather was one not a hundred miles fiom where we arc now sitting, called the Dunstan Jockey Club, which has a grand stand, a handsome and substantial structure, but which has not been used for some time past, except as a cattle shelter. We think it high time the D. J. C. woke up, and came to some decision at to what they purpose doing with their building. A very good reason wdiy they should consider things is the fact of their race-course, which is reserved to them, being rendered utterly useless by the railway survey which runs right through it. We think the proper course to take would bo to apply for another area of land in exchange, if possible closer to Clyde. A very good site would be between the town boundary and Mutton Town Creek, and remove the stand to it. The situation would answer all purposes—cricket, racing, Caledonian sports--and by being fenced in and planted with trees, would make an excellent general recreation and pleasure ground. That it is incumbent on the Club to do a something is admissible if for no other purpose than to consider the small monetary obligation they are under, and which there is no fiuestion will be pressed for when the time for payment anives.
