ALEXANDRA.
Communicated. ORDINATION uF REV. J. LOTHIAN. The ordination and induction of the Rev J Lothian into the Presbytery and to the charge of this and the surrounding district, took place on the 1 Ith inst in the Presbyterian Church, Alexandra. The liev.ls Mr Allan, Chisholm, an I Borrie officiated. The Rev Mr Allan having preached a most excellent and telling sermon, after the usual prayeis and chanting by the chair, the ceremony of ordination was performed, after which Mr Chisholm and Mr Borrie respectively addressed the newly ordained clergyman and the people present, explaining and showing the good that sympathy and encouragement has on the minister. The number of signatures to the call was over 10U From the solemn to the gay. An adjournment was soon made to the Town Hall, kindly accorded for the occasion hy the Borough Council, the which was verv tastefully and prettily decorated for the occasion, and in which was laid a most beautiful tea, which combined every delicacy of the season. The display of fruit on the table from Conroy’s and the neighbouring oichards, was grand in the extreme. Full justice having been done to the good things provided, and special votes of thanks given to the ladies for the time and trouble bestowed by them in providing so great a treat, also to \ir W. Beiesford and Mr W. Robertson for the willing assistance they gave the ladies, the tables were cleared and the scats re-arranged. The room being again well liiled, the Rev Mr Lothian took the chair, and introduced the SRevds Allan, Chisholm, Borne, and Hlackie, who individually addres-ed the meeting. Between the addresses ihn choir sang some appropriate pieces and several of Sankey and Moody’s hymns to the accompaniment of Miss Odell. Notwithstanding the presence of but a few ge itlemen, the singing was very nice, and great, praise is due to Mes- | dames Vanse. De Silva, and Stewart, ami Millies Odell, Goulding, and Thomson, for the amusement of the evening. The most interesting feature of die evening was the presentation, by Mr Robert Finlay, of a handsomely bound family i-ible to Mr W. Thomson,(for his past good work in connection with the church. The customary vote of thanks terminated the proceedings.
The Sports at Alexandra on Monday last, (St. Patrick’s Day) were fairly successful, a goodly number of coinpetif rs being on the ground, whilst the number of visitors was equal to what I have seen at many a race meeting. The day was observed as a general holi lay throughout the district, and old and young alike went in for some amusement of one kind or another. A perfect cavalcade of lads and hisses made a tom of the district, and I am really afraid to sav how many cups of tea ( and yes please just half a cup more, just up to the blue) were imbibed by the obi ladies, and the still greater old women—you know what I mean. In the evening the Town Hall was fairly thronged by a gay crowd of devotees of Terpsicnre. who tripped it right merrily till far into the wee hours. Amonst the dancers th"'e were some few of your Clyde Men Is. who appeared to enjoy themselves Of the Spirts that I can recollect the following is a resume ; —Quoit match. L. Cameron, 1. D.
