COUNTY MATCH.
(10 TUB EDITOR OF THE DUN3TAN TIMES.) Sir The following correspondence having taken place relative to the above, 1 should feel obliged by your publishing the same. Mr Loudon's letter to Mr \V. Fat Tie in reference to my suggestions as to the men to play in the same has reached me. The perfectly uncalled for insult to me contained in that letter is the cause of my now asking you to publish the same, as also my note to .dr W. Fache which led to it.
Galloway Station. March Bth, 1879. Mr W, Fache, Clyde Dear Sir—Station work prevented my seeing you to-'ay re County Match. Mi Sweet kindly brings you these few lines Kindly communicate with Cromwell Le ih'in send three best men. I should select the remaining eight thus—Sweet, Clark. Leahy, L a'-iv, H i cliff, Williams. Stevens, W. (Jet* Should any or all of tlie’Croii* well men not turn up Telford, Little, C fires. Lt me know directly you get the Cromwell answer.
I nee I hardly say that out of courtesy to Mr Han lyaido we arc hound to accept tin Maniototo County time, and pie is.- write and a/ree to day mentioned, vi* , 24 hj Yours, Jtc.
W f i Rees 1 believe Mr W. Fache sent the above bv ■he hands of Mr Hotop to Mr Loudon, anil received the following reply ■
Cromwell, March 9:h, 1879. Mr W. Fache, I have received letter from Mr Hotop re Comity Mauiototo match. Ist. The notice given to this Club is to sho-t, nn'y 14 days. 2nd. You have fixed the date of the match without consulting the Cromwell Club —only hoping the day will suit, 3rd. —Evidently from Mr I’ees’s letter who names eight from your part of the County, an I only three from Crom well - the match takes the form of a Galloway Stati n match, and not a fair representative team Viewing the foregoing from a cricket ■joint of view. I do not *hink you are treati rg ihis Club in a fair manner. Als >. the Queenstown match, in reference to which we were entirely misled ; and although going to some trouble and moie expense, were cut short with only the vague information that Queenstown declined to play—Yours, ic., J. LopDOS Mr Lou lon savs, the notice given is “ to short,” (1 cme'ude he means “ too short ”) and that the Secretary had fixed the date without consulting the Cromwell Chih, The fact is. that the Maniototo County fixed the date in conjunction wi’h i*ir Handysite, and the least rhe Vincent County c slid do Was to accept that date as we are to he (<is last, year) Mr Handyside’s guests for the oay ; and he also gives t.he use of a care ully pre oared pail oak for the match Mr Loudon slates rhat Cromwell is “ one part of the C un y," and that all o her owns and country ate “the other part." Kb’s nui eri di*. Cromwell in one part. l>ut a*m I at Hi simj.lv ig ime* the fct that there are two other ' Vick -t I Hubs, besides thit at Cromwell, viz .- The Dnnstan District CC (generally known as Clyde.) in I ihe Alexandra C.C.
I consequently mentioned—Th-ee best men from C-o nw II ; als>, Clarke from that aide of the County ; three Clyde men, viz , Leahy. Leahv, nnl Stenbens • three men from A ll idr.a, viz., cllatlilfb, Wi li ms, and \V. ij. Jieea. and as the eleventh man, Sweet, also a member of the Duostan District C.C. an I Alexandra Club.
I did not f-rget that last year the Cromwe 1 men di i.ot come; but still without assistance fro n Cr on veil, we pi aye I a drawn match very much in our favour. Thinkmg distance might ajain hinder Cr.imwe 1 from coming to the Lanier (Mr Handvside’s) I mentioned Telford, Little ml llees, as emerrenev mm, who coild noine at a mon em’s notice
Let others judge, if the team chosen be uit a fair renresentatfive one, and not one to be nit! ing y * lei a G II .vviv teamay a perfect stranger, wh > knows nothing a'out the matter

I am glad that Mr Lou lon has written in ais prirat'i capacity, for I feel certain that intone of rnv fr ends and old fe'low cricke ers at Cromwell wo ild sanction its gen .al toae. more especially that portion referring to Galloway —Yours.
