CRICKET.

On Thursday, the 23rd List, a match was played at Alexandra, between an eleven from Galloway Station and eleven of the Local Club. The Galloway team went in first and scored 47, no less than 20 of number bring for byes. The Alexandra eleven then went in and succeeded in running up 59, including 10 byes, L. Cameron, by dint of hard slogging, being die highest scorer with 15 to his name. In the second innings the Galloways only scored 34, including l 4 byes, leaving the local club 23 to get to w in, which they succeeded in doing with the-loss of four wickets. The play does not cad for much remark, the bowling of Messrs Telford and Sams, for Alexandra, and r '.iley for Galloway being to i good for most of the batsmen, many of whom si eniod entirely out of practice. In the second innings of Alexandra Mr Ratclifte seemed to have got into his old form and was well set for a score, when a fine hit for six by J. 11b ertsni finished the game. The ground between the wickets was laid down with coir matting which seemed to answer the purpose adndral ly, but behind the wickets the ground w as very rough, which accounts for the unusually large number of byes, esp daily off Mr Sams’ fast balls, which seemed almost impossible to be fielded on such ground.
