I » • —o— . This annual gathering took place oh Weil nesday, New Year’s Day, and in point of attendance of visitors and competitors wa« more successful than any that has preceded it. Amongst the visitors were agieat many from CromweJl aud the Lpnhurn, and gooil, sprinkling'from the Maunherikia, all of whom thoroughly entered'into the ■ enjoyment of the day. Each event was most keenly contested, the mens’ races especially being very exciting. The Tilting, the first prize for which, including the sweepstake, came to L 7 10s , brought eight into the ring, and was won by J. M'Naughton with eight rings, out of a possible 15. Hunting tbe- pigs was great sport for the boys, and in fact was productive of much merriment. The running high leap, though only competed for by three, was a grand contest, Hutchison winning it, s:t 2in; Dunbar, ranching 3ft lin, a id Eae 5 ft.
