DISTRICT COURT, CLYDE.

Monday, Dkc. 2, IS7S. (Before Judge Harvey and a Jury.) Criminal Jurisdiction. Annie Noble was charged with having committed an aggravated assault on the person of Mary Roberts in the mouth of August last. MrTurton, Crown Prosecutor, was n attendance ou behalf of the Crown. Mr F. J. Wilson, defended the prisoner, who on hearing the charge read, plea lei “ Not Guilty,” to the extent as stated, hut admitted the striking. The plea of *' Not Guilty” was recorded. The prosecutrix gave her evidence, and during cross examination, his Honor Judge Harvey said, from what he could glean from the evidence the whole thing was nothing but a quarrel between two women of ungovernable temper, and which was the worst ho would not say. As the prisoner hid pleaded guilty tc a common assaul , ha would suggest that to save further time, the Crown Prosecutor should accept of that verdict—he only wished it was in his power o bind both over to keep the peace. MrTurton agreeing to this, and Mr Wilson, Attorney for the prisoner, also agreeing to such a course, +he Jury without retiring, returned a verdict of “ Guilty of a Common Assault.” The prisoner was then sentenced to seven days imprisonment in Clyde Gaol IN BANKRUPTCY. John Terry, of Alexandra, miner—Application for Final discharge.—Granted. The Court then adjourned sine die.
