The idea on being mooted was quickly and tcadily taken up, and sufficient for the desired purpose wr.s in .■ a few days subscribed, and those" who hail' initiated th' 6 movement having been vested with power to select what they might consider the most desirable object, obtained through Mr Hislop, Watchmaker of Dunedin, a handsome gold three-quarter plate English Lever Hunting Watch, haying engraved on the inside case—“ Presented to Arthur Ji mesDenniston as a mark of esteem by the residents of Clyde.’’ Hero we vainly thought the matter ended, but to our most pleasant surprise, wo find that such was not the case, as during the week the Mayor of Clyde received a most grateful acknowledgment from MrDenniston for the present,, who handed it to us for publication the which is done in another column, and to which we refer our readers.
