THE LONGWOOD REEFS.

—o (Western Star, Juno 8.) I

A company of about thirty shareholders has been formed to prospect the Longwood for quartz reefs. A party under Mr James Taylor proceeded up the river Jyesterday as the working shareholders of the company. Their exact destination has not been disclosed, but their efforts will be first directed to further prospect a reef discovered some years ago at (we beliove) the southerly base of the Longwood, in open country. If success is not met with in this direction, the attention of the party will be turned to reefs known to exist in other . parts of the range. This is a sensible way of prospecting the range, and deserves every encouragement. Shareholders arc scattered all over the district and Invercargill, and by payment of a few shillings per week each, they not only assist to develop the field, but they stand a good chance of getting an interest in a good claim at a nominal figure. The working party is under able guidance, and we hope soon to chronicle a good find.

Wo have nothing new to report regarding the Longwood reefs this week. Preparations are merely being made to pet a failstart, and as each leaseholder is compelled to employ four men, it may be expected that some genuine prospecting w ill shortly be done. The prospectors have not yet hottome' 1 , although they bad sunk to a depth of nearly thirty feet yesterday.
