CROMWELL.

(Communicated.) April 25. As I noticed in my last, about a great field day so I have to notice another, as today Municipal honors went a-begging. Out of all the citizens in Cromwell not one cared to be connected with the present Council. Something must be wrong, or else the citizens have such implicit confidence in the present ring But, at Cromwell, we do things as they ought to be done. The Mayor is the Grand Vizier, nothing can bo done without him ; in fact, the Cromwell Argus could not be printed until His Worship arrived, and gave a correct account of the great War Demonstration at Queenstown, and all the citizens were kept in anxious suspense till the morning after it is usually issued. Of course you will get a copy, and 1 would not like to in any way challenge the reporters account of it.

1 see that the o’d lunatic Marsh has not only shifted his place back but also his verandah. What he means I don’t know.

But Mr Editor, can yon tell me what the Mayor has to do with nominations under the Local Elections Act. I see hero His Worship took the position of the Returning Officer to-day. Is there any new law come in force that only mayors are posted up in since last sessions ?

In the Dunedin Times a correspondent is complaining about Reid and Gray’s factorymaking a noise and disturbing him. Could you persuade them to come to Cromwell, where employment could bo found for a limited number of their ploughs and harrows, and also for standards and wire, and other farming implements? Wo will not complain about the noise, but welcome their energies in this now and undeveloped farming district.

I forgot to tell you that an old and ,respected public officer left the district last week—Mr John Cassells, late of the Otago Police Force. As the local paper did not notice it I think it only fair some record should be left.
