The report of the judgment given hy his Honor Judge Harvey in the District Court in the Appeal against the decision of Mr Warden Simpson for cancellation of waterright, the pror erty of the Corporation of Clyde is of interest to Municipal bodies, and worthy noting.

Mr James Green has announced himself a candidate for the seat in the House of Representatives, rendered vacant hy the retirement of the Hon. W. H. Reynolds, the late member for Fort Chalmers.

A substantial wharf, 100 feet m length and 25 feet in width, to carry a double line of railway, is to be built in Lake Wakatipu, at the railway terminus, Kingstown. The time for receiving tenders for this work, at the District Engineer’s office, Dunedin, will close on the 17th of April, and the wharf is to be finished within three months of the date of the acceptance of the tender.— Daily Times. , • -i fA An inquest was held at Roxburgh, on the 21st inst., on the body of a miner named Abraham Shadwick. The deceased was a resident at Bannockburn, and was on bis way to the Dunedin Hospital when he breathed his last. The verdict was—- “ Died from natural causes.”

The survey of the Strathtaieri line of railway is beingfmade with|all possible expedition, There are now four survey parties engaged on different parts of the Hue. A rough survey of the whole line, and a detailed survey of its difficult portions, will be completed before the next session of Parliament.

The only two cases in which trim bills were not found were the following; Susan De Costa, charged with the murder of her child, and Thomas Rowland Dosset for felony. The Morning Advertiser hears on trustworthy authority that official information has been received at St. Petersburg, from General Kooropatkine, Governor of Semipalatinsk, to the effect that the Chinese treons have massacred at the Kashgarian town of Manas upwards of 15,000 men, women, and children. The massacre was attended with atrocities of the moat frightful description.

A curious story comes from Colorado, which, if true, indicates a degree of lawlessness that we have thought impossible, even in the border States and territories. One of the judges of that State, who attempted to hold a Court in a locality where such an institution does not seem to be welcome, was commanded to desist by an individual said tube a deputy sheriff, and who pretended to be acting under the authority of what he said was a warrant eoramancPng the judge to deliver up the books and seal of the Court and discontinue all proceeding*. The Judge ordered this individual to sit down, and threatened him with arrest if he did not do so. The answer was an attack upon the judge by the pretending officer, who struck him, and also fired a pistol at him. A general not followed, but the judge was able to secure the records and seal of the Court. Application lias been made to the governor for assistance in restoring order in the troubled district, and it is to be, hoped that the Court may ho soon able to resume its setting in safety.—Albany Law Journal.
