The Globe states that, in the event -of an expeditionary force, Lord Napier of Magdala will command, and General Sir Garnet Wolsely his chief of staff. February 28th. The House of Commons has passed the Colonial Marriages Bill by 182 against 101 The Government opposed the Bill. March Ist. The Brigade of Guards has been placed on a war footing. The Channel squadron is at Malta. Sir Stafford Northcote, in reply to a question said the Government wore notin possession of information regarding the peace conditions between Russia and Turkey ; but if they were found injurious to British :n----tereats, the Government were fully prepared to vindicate its rights. March 2nd. Four divisions of the Roumanian army have been called out for active service. The Times announces that the Porte has ordered the Governor of the Dardanelles to prevent a further passage to any war ships. The New York Herald states that a Russian war ship has arrived at San Francisco. The Navy estimates amount LI 1,000,000 sterling. The King of Italy has been invested with the Order of the Garter.
