CRICKET MATCH.
o A! match came off at Clyde on Saturday last between the Dunstan District and vhe Queenstown Clubs. The weather was all that could have been desired, and the respective teams 'under the captainship of Messrs Eees and Macan, arrived on the ground at ten o'clock punctually, and after the usual preliminaries, Mr Dees, the captain of the Dunstan team, sent his opponents to the wickets. It was 'precisely half-past ten when “ play” Was Called, -and Messrs ißolton and M‘Lean appeared at the wickets to the bowling of Messrs Sims and Williams. Mr Bolton displayed good cricket, but was caught out after making twelve in very good style. In this the first innings of the Queenstown team no other wade anything of a stand, with tho exception of Mr J. C, Jones, who is a very good bat. It Will be seen on reference to the scores, which are appended below, that two only weie bowled out, but It must be attributed'to tbe-really good fielding df the Clyde team that so few runs were got and the Queenstowrlites disposed of in so short a time one hour. We particularly have to compliment Mr Sweet in the way ho caught two very difficult balls; likewise Messrs Bees and Stevens, who also made good catches. The Dunstan uieii wdhtto the wickets at twenty minutes •to twelve, Messrs Eees and Sams going in us the bowling of Messrs Woodhead and Dumphy. Sir Eees made three when ho ■was caught out by Bolton, which was a good ..catch. He was succeeded by F. Williams, who was caught beautifully by Marshall—'.longatop—the first ball. Mr W. M. Sweet followed, who made ten in his usual good -.style, and was then given out 1. b. w. Mr Sams at this stage of the game was caught by Bolton—a very good catch—after making twelve. Mr Shaw now appeared, and'began to score immediately, and succeeded in putting together the respectable number of ► twenty-seven ; he never gave a chance and carried his bat out. Mr J. 'E. Stevens contributed eight in a very creditable manner, and was clean bowled by Dumpby. Mr MacGcorge scored Six, and was then run out. Only four more runs were got In this innings, Mr M'Kay contributing one and Mr E Stewart three. Mr Dmuphy bowled the moat of tho innings and we consider Lis bowling was very good, although at times-a .little wide. The-playera at this stage of the game adjourned for refreshment. The game was renewed in a short time by Messrs •Bolton and M‘Lean, for Queenstown, appearing at the Wickets, to the same bowling as before. In this their second innings they made a much longer stand and displayed soma very good cricket, but the , bowling appeared to be a little too good for . .them, and wo must say that Williams secured his wickets in good style, but Sams, , we are informed, was not. bowling in his usual style, ho being vary unwell the whole of the day. At the end of neatly two'hours the Quecffstowuitcs wero all disposed of for <l7, thus leaving tbe-Dilnstanites only twelve to taeg who .then■ sent Messrs Williams and .•Shaw to the Wickets,'who seen brought the •score up -to the number wanted -Williams making nine, Shaw three, byes and wides •three, thus bringing the game to a close. •. Messrs Eatcliffe and W. Facho acted as umpires, and gave satisfaction, but of course there were a few growls as usual when anyone was given out 1. hj. w. On the evening ■ of the arrival 6f the Queenstown team there wa3 a dance in the Town Hall, when there was a good attendance, the Clyde Brass vik'nd giving thfcir services for the occasion. 0" the evening ct the match they wore entertained at dinner at Nettlofold’s Dunstan Hotel, at which about thirty gentlemen sat down. We may here state that it is the intention of the Dunstan team to proceed ’ to Queenstown at an early date to play tho return match. Tho following are the scores Queenstown.—First'lnnings 11. F.
