KEEPING FRUIT.
The‘conditions required are a uniform temperature, as low as may be without freezing, and dryness. The collar of the house should not be used for storing laige quantities of fruit if it can be avoided, and if used, there shonld he ample ventilation, to carry off the carbonic acid, given off by the fruit in ripening. The temperature of oodeg. to -lOdeg. is best, and when the thermometer shows above 40deg., the outer air, if colder, should be admitted. Apulcs, properly picked and barreled, need not be disturbed until wanted for use or sale. Store pears in boxes or drawers, where they may he occasionally inspected, as they often ripen unevenly.
