ORIGINAL CORRESPONDENCE.
—o—{We do not hold ourselves responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents. ] (TO THE EDITOR OF THE DUNSTAN TIMES-) Sir, —I do not know whether our Engineer is so overburdened with work as to be unable to overtake the duties, of his department or not, but if so, I think it the Council would provide him an assistant, instead of allowing Councillors to meddle in matters with which they have no business, it would be much better. Such a system is vicious in principle and tendency, and will eventually load to great abuses if Hot checked. Why councillors, who think the duties proper to their own office too much to do for nothipg, should yet in addition undertake' so much'of the duties of the Engineer without pay, is one of those things no fellah can understand. But whatever jiay.he the explanation of their conduct, J think the sooner the Council relieve them of their extra duties, and place them on the shoulders of the proper officers, the better it will he for the purity and good name of .the Council. -1 am, Ac., Ratepayer.
