MUNICIPALITY OF CLYDE.

An Emergency Meeting of the Council called by the Mayor under Section 30 of the Otago Municipal Corporations’ Ordinance, 1865 was held in the Council Chambers on Tuesday evening last the 22nd instant. Present S. Welsford, Mayor, and Councillors Auckland, Beck, Clark and Cox. The Mayor said he bad called the mooting to consider the following matters, and which ho considered were of sufficient importance to warrant him in doing so. The question of the utmost importance was that of making arrangements for meeting the loan on the Clyde Bridge, and the others were relative to the framing of Bye Laws under the Slaughter-houses Act of 1877 the action pending in the Warden’s Court, “ Feraud v. Corporation of Cl yd,” for the cancellation of the Corporation’s Waterright—and the desirability or otherwise of coming under the Municipal Corporations’ Act, 1876. lt> explanation of tho first ho said, from what he understood, the Government werp likely at any moment to forward the amount voted hy the House of Representatives during the last Sess ; on (L 5000) for the purchase of tho Clyde Bridge, consequently it was necessary to see in what position financially the Council was in to meet the full demand of the Mortgagee.’ Tho Town Clerk laid on tho table a statement of Assets and Liabilities, showing that to provide for the full demand, an overdraft would be requited from the Bank. Resolved—That the Mayor be empowered to Wait on the Manager of the Bank of New South Wales, and arrange with him for a temporary overdraft of L2OO. The question of framing Bye Laws under the Slafighter-honses' Act after discussion, during which tho Mayor suggested tho License Poo should ho fixed as follows—For small cattle L 3 per year, and for large cattle L2 per year, was ordered to stand over till the next general meeting. Over the question of the Action—“ Foraiid v. Corporation ” a heated an I lengthy discussion took place, eventually the matter lapsed. Resolved—That the Town Clerk prepare at once the necessary Petition to the Governor for signatures, and take all necessary steps towards having the Clyde Corpo-

ration constituted a Borough under the Municipal Corporations’ Act, 1870. The meeting then terminated with the customary vote to the Chair.
